Learning is Earning
Grading Policy
Students will be assessed on mastery of the 6th grade standards. Assessments will be both formative and summative. They include quizzes and tests administered in class, as well as essays and projects that will require additional time both at school and at home. Assessments will be graded as standards Not Met (1), Nearly Met (2), or Met (3). Students who miss school with an excused absence will have the same number of days missed to make up any missed assessments in order to receive their mastery marks. Assessments will be maintained in the students' portfolios of excellence for distribution at the end of each trimester.
Explanation of Mastery of Standards Marks
Met (3): The student consistently meets the standard as it is described by the grade level standards. The student demonstrates proficiency of the grade level standards. The student, with limited errors, grasps and applies the key concepts, processes and skills for the grade level standards. The student's work is comparable to applicable student models and rubrics that are labeled Met.
Nearly Met (2): The student is beginning to and occasionally does meet the grade level standards. The student is beginning to grasp and apply the key concepts, process and skills for the grade level standard but produces work that contains many errors. The student's work is comparable to applicable student models and rubrics that are labeled Nearly Met.
Not Met (1): The student is not meeting the standards for this grade level. The student is not grasping and applying the key concepts, process and skills for the grade level standard because they are producing work that contains too many errors. The student's work is comparable to applicable student models and rubrics that are labeled Not Met.
Assignments are learning opportunities that provide practice on the skills necessary to show mastery on assessments. They will include work done in class and at home. Assignments are required to be done on time. Missing work means missed recesses. Though assignments will not count toward mastery grades, they will still be recorded as either Missing (0), Incomplete (5), Finished with Few Mistakes (7), or Complete and Error Free (10). Students who miss school with an excused absence will have the same number of days missed to make up any missed assignments in order to receive full or above marks. Most assignments will go home in students' Tuesday Folders following entrance into the grade book.
